Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia Announces New Clinic Location for Baxley PDF Print E-mail

Baxley, GA – The Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia (BJISG) has moved its Baxley office to a new, convenient location. The Baxley Satellite Clinic is now at 1093 West Parker Street, Suite A.


The original Baxley location opened in the mid 90’s as the first satellite location of the well-known Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Practice. The new office is directly across from Walmart, inside the South Georgia Diagnostic and Prevention Center, at the office of Dr. Clay Carter and Caroline Anderson, FNP, and offers the convenience of on-site x-ray, allowing patients more direct, personal contact with their BJISG physician.

Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia Receives 2nd Award of Accreditation from the Joint Commission PDF Print E-mail

March 3, 2014 - Jesup, GA – The Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia (BJISG) Jesup Surgery Center has earned its second consecutive seal of accreditation. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ was awarded to BJI for demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and patient safety in January. The first seal of accreditation was awarded in April 2011. The awards recognize the practice for their continued dedication and outstanding service in orthopedic care.


“Organizations that strive for accreditation in ambulatory care from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to quality and safety to their patients, staff and their community,” says Michael Kulczycki, executive director, Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission. “I commend The Bone & Joint Institute for successfully achieving this pinnacle and for its dedication to continually improving patient care.”


Since 1975, The Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards for outpatient ambulatory care organizations. Approximately 1,900 of the nearly 6,000 freestanding ambulatory care organizations in the US maintain Joint Commission accreditation.


Bone & Joint Institute Awards Academic Player of the Year at the 4th Annual Football Banquet PDF Print E-mail

SwansonFebruary 3, 2014 – JESUP, GA – In their fourth consecutive year, The Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia continued their support of In the Game magazine’s Annual Southeast Georgia High School Football Awards Banquet held in Waycross on December 16th. The annual event recognizes players and coaches from Southeast Georgia Schools for excellent achievement in athletics and academics. In addition each year, one recipient is recognized with a Humanitarian Award. 


The 2013 Bone & Joint Institute Academic Player of the Year was awarded to Jamez Davis of Charlton County High School. The award was presented by Dr. Christopher E. Swanson of BJI who praised Davis for his outstanding academic achievements as well as his athletic abilities. 


Scholar-athlete Jamez Davis was recently named to the Class 2-A All Region 2nd Team Offense. Coaches also named him as a region representative for the All-Academic Team. In Davis’s senior year, the offensive linemen and the rest of Charlton County Indians advanced to the state playoffs for the first time since 2006. He has a 4.0 grade point average, and his resume includes membership in the Beta Club and National Honor Society, as well as numerous other accolades. After graduation, Davis plans to attend college and pursue his aspiration of becoming a doctor. He has already begun attending medical seminars at prestigious institutions including Emory University. 

BJISG at Waycross Earns ACR Accreditation PDF Print E-mail

ACR AccreditationNovember 13, 2013 - Waycross, GA — The Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia’s Waycross practice has been awarded the gold seal of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.


The ACR has recognized the practice and location for its achievement in exhibiting exceptional image quality, high practice standard, and patient safety. This award is only given to facilities meeting the ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians, radiologists, and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are all assessed. The findings of the evaluation are then reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation.

bji 3056 208SaturdayClinicFlyer Jesup ColorAugust 23, 2013 – JESUP, GA – The Bone & Joint Institute of South Georgia announced this week that beginning Saturday August 24th, their Jesup and Waycross offices will be open Saturdays between 8 and 11am. “We’re excited to provide all of the communities we serve with the option of Saturday appointments.


It’s not always convenient to go get an MRI or have any kind of doctor’s appointment during the week – and of course with Friday night football games, there’s often a need for student athletes to be seen quickly without having to go to the ER,” said J. Lex Kenerly, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon. He went on to explain that he sees these Saturday clinics as another step in BJI’s continuing effort to be as patient-centric as possible.
